Cheddar Gorge Trail – Cheddar, Somerset

“One lesson I learnt from my previous attempts was to only face into this particular challenge after a couple of dry days, the ascent particularly on the North Cliff can get muddy and slippery very easily making it a perilous path after a little rain. With a few days of sunshine over the Easter break, it seemed an opportune moment to pull on my walking shoes and attempt to finally overcome this trail that had eluded me for a number of years. Very quickly I realised the ground wasn’t as dry or stable as I would have hoped and a brief shower at the top tempered my enthusiasm a degree but the determination and ambition were there and it was a challenge I finally overcame.” Continue reading Cheddar Gorge Trail – Cheddar, Somerset

Paws on the Wharf London (2024) – Art Trail Review

“This is the first of four trails I’m aiming to complete this year, an ambition at the start of January to explore some more, and discover new towns and cities around me. Over the Summer I’ll be looking for Castles in Swansea and Penguins in Worcester before finishing the year with the Snowman Trail in London. It feels nice to start and end the year in London, and on this particular trail looking for my favourite type of dog, the loyal and adorable Labrador in aid of such a wonderful cause. Not the hardest of challenges but certainly one I really enjoyed.” Continue reading Paws on the Wharf London (2024) – Art Trail Review

Walking The Thames Path: Marlow to Henley-On-Thames

“The journey begun on a warm autumnal morning in September. Unlike other parts of this walk where the car has provided quick and convenient access to ease getting from point to point, it was reliant entirely on the trains. With an early start on a clear morning, it was time to catch the commuter service out towards Maidenhead before changing over to a branch line service out towards Marlow.” Continue reading Walking The Thames Path: Marlow to Henley-On-Thames

‘Be Good, Be The Best At What You Do’ – On How Writing Encouraged New Experiences To Overcome Anxiety

“Recently I begun to reflect on the opportunities and experiences this particular medium has influenced me to undertake. It encouraged a simple maxim, to aspire to be good at a specific objective, to have the courage and determination to push against self imposed limitations and fear in facing into unknown experiences. Part of this was a physical manifestation in recent years of my body not reacting well to anxiety and the unknown. Having to learn simple techniques to overcome even mundane barriers that presented on a daily basis. ” Continue reading ‘Be Good, Be The Best At What You Do’ – On How Writing Encouraged New Experiences To Overcome Anxiety

Walking The Grand Union Canal: Bletchley to Leighton Buzzard

“The next stage of our journey begun in the town of Bletchley, known today for its principal use during the Second World War as a centre for the Allied code-breakers and their work to shorten the conflict through the decryption of the German Enigma code. Slowly but surely, we have been pushing further away from London and out into the Buckinghamshire countryside as we continue the walk towards Birmingham.” Continue reading Walking The Grand Union Canal: Bletchley to Leighton Buzzard

Walking The Thames Path: Staines-Upon-Thames to Windsor

It was time to continue our journey along one of the most scenic stretches of the river, passing pleasure boats and opulent, riverside homes with families enjoying the unusually warm April sunshine. Having left London behind, it required a degree of logistical planning to undertake this challenge, navigating around the perils of bank holiday time tables and Easter activities along the water ways but it was wonderful to be back out along the River.
