Waitrose Free From Chocolate Brownies – Bite Sized Food Review

“These Gluten Free brownies from Waitrose are remarkably good value given the generous portion size of each cake. There has been an issue with consistency with some of their cakes, the caramel cupcake bites were an enjoyable treat but felt a little stodgy and lose in the base. In contrast their Christmas mince pie had a more rigid density in its casing and a rich fruity filling that made for a tasty alternative to the Costa Mince Tart. Given the growing range of Gluten Free brownie alternatives available today I was curious to see whether Waitrose would be able to compete with a great tasting product that had a similar consistency and finish to its traditional wheat based counterpart.” Continue reading Waitrose Free From Chocolate Brownies – Bite Sized Food Review

Brighton Vacation – Food and Things to do on a Rainy Day

“Brighton, one of the best coastal cities in the UK famed for its beaches, promenades and lifestyles was a fascinating place to spend a couple of days away from London. We’d visited this bright and colourful city on a number of occasions before but this was the first time we had decided to spend a couple of days without the need to get back to the Capital as the sun went down. In the absence of any international travel in the near future, this was as close to a beach holiday we’ve experienced in the last year and certainly we were blessed with a break in the weather that made for an enjoyable experience. Enjoying the simple pleasures of a traditional British seaside vacation, fish and chips on the beach, spending a pocketful of change at the arcade.” Continue reading Brighton Vacation – Food and Things to do on a Rainy Day

Gluten Free Lemon & Ginger Cheesecake with a Blueberry Compote – Bite Sized Food Review

“A decent slice of cheesecake is one of those luxurious, decadent treats to enjoy in life to enjoy in moderation. With a range of flavours and toppings to try, there are a huge variety of options to enjoy. But often one fundamental aspect deters those who suffer from a Gluten Intolerance and coeliac and that is the presence of wheat in the base mixture that can have an unpleasant side effect. Thankfully, a no bake cheesecake is one of the easiest desserts and puddings to put together quickly that is easy to substitute a few ingredients into to make it an enjoyable treat.” Continue reading Gluten Free Lemon & Ginger Cheesecake with a Blueberry Compote – Bite Sized Food Review

Gluten Free Banana Loaf – Bite Sized Food Review

“This week I tried another classic British Loaf Based recipe that was exceedingly popular in the formative months of the first national lockdown, the delicious fruit based Banana Loaf. With the nation stuck at home and inside last Spring, many took to baking, there were shortages of flour and other key ingredients, and a multitude of banana loafs baked across the country. In celebration of those baking endeavours, a year later I have returned to the loaf cake that a nation took to heart and tried to bake a Gluten Free variety with the same great tastes and textures but safer for the tummy.” Continue reading Gluten Free Banana Loaf – Bite Sized Food Review

Gluten Free Lemon Drizzle and Blueberry Loaf Cake – Bite Sized Food Review

“It’s time to get back into the kitchen to whip up a new, Gluten Free recipe inspired by a traditional bake. Recently I’ve been experimenting with a number of ready made brownie kits which tasted great but I wanted to try baking from scratch so looked for inspiration from the classics. For this recipe, I turned to the very traditional Lemon Drizzle Loaf cake adding a handful of blueberries to the mix to give it a little something special. I adore a good home made loaf cake, especially when it’s left for a day to solidify overnight which adds a greater level of density to the product.” Continue reading Gluten Free Lemon Drizzle and Blueberry Loaf Cake – Bite Sized Food Review
